Beer and honey glazed ham
Prep time: 20 minutes
Yield: 4 lbs ham: 10 portions
Cook time, glaze: 1 hour
Cook time, ham: 20 minutes per poud
INGREDIENTS
Glaze
- 1 bottle beer, brown ale
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 to 3 cloves
Ham
- 1 bone-in smoked ham
- 1/2 onion
TIPS and thoughts
- You can make the glaze in advance.
- The glaze hardens in the fridge. It will get liquid enough to brush on ham once at room temperature.
- Not a beer drinker? Me neither, but the beer’s bitterness cuts the saltiness and smokiness of the ham.
STEPS
Glaze
- In a sauce pot, over low heat, combine all ingredients:
- Beer
- Honey
- Bay leaves
- Cloves
- Let reduce until it has thicken, about 1/3 left.
Ham
- Heat oven to 325° F.
- Score ham in a diamond pattern.
- Thinly slice onion and place at the bottom of your cooking pan or pot.
- Place ham on top of the onions.
- Brush some of the glaze onto the ham and put in oven.
- Every 20 minutes or so, brush more glaze onto ham.
